Open Comment Period Ends at Midnight

TTV says it all the time – progressive political interests have a knack for preserving, if not outright exacerbating, weaknesses in our electoral systems. This week, Virginia offers the latest example. According to The Washington Post, Governor Terry McAuliffe offered his support for a significant overhaul of the state’s voter registration form, removing the requirement that applicants directly affirm they are U.S. citizens and have not had their voting rights removed due to felony convictions. Proponents of the change say it does not allow noncitizens to register – it just does not punish applicants if they fail to directly answer questions. By signing the application, they agree with the fine print that requires citizenship. At the State Board of Elections meeting this week, the proposal was largely panned by concerned citizens and local election officials alike. The general criticism was that no one reads the fine print at the bottom…

Hillary Clinton calls for sweeping expansion of voter access

Hillary Clinton calls for sweeping expansion of voter access   Hillary Rodham Clinton on Thursday called for sweeping changes in national voter-access laws aimed at making it easier for young people and minorities to take part in elections, putting her on a collision course with Republicans who say such measures are a political ploy that would lead to widespread abuses.       In a speech at a historically black college here, Clinton called for federal legislation that would automatically register Americans to vote at age 18 and would mandate at least 20 days of early voting ahead of election days in all states.       Making her most fiercely partisan political speech since her first, failed run for president in 2008, Clinton attacked Republicans for what she characterized as a calculated attempt to turn back the clock on voting rights – and called out several potential 2016 opponents by name for backing voter restrictions…

Hogan vetoes measure to allow felons to vote

In case you missed it, Governor Hogan vetoed the Felon Voting Bill.  Great News! Hogan vetoes six bills, including measure to allow felons to vote Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan vetoed six bills Friday, including legislation that would have allowed thousands of felons to vote and a measure to tax online travel services at the same rate as hotels. Hogan (R) also rejected measures to decriminalize public smoking of marijuana and legalize pot paraphernalia; clarify rules for collecting hotel-rental taxes in Howard County; and bar law enforcement from seizing criminal assets totaling less than $300. The voting legislation, which came in the form of companion bills from the Senate and House, would have applied to an estimated 40,000 people on probation or parole. The bill was inspired, in part, by the national conversation about racial profiling, sentencing guidelines and police conduct after violent deaths last year in Ferguson, Mo., and Staten…

Help Governor Hogan Veto this Bill

There is currently a link on MDPetitions.com asking Maryland Governor Larry Hogan to veto bill SB 340/HB 980.  This new law allows convicted felons to vote before they have completed their sentences. Current Maryland law allows convicted felons to vote after they have completed their sentence.  They need to have served their time in a correctional institution and to have completed any parole or probation time left. Once they have “paid back their debt to society,” their citizen right to vote is restored. If you believe convicted felons should have their right to vote restored only after they have paid back their “debt to society,” please ask Governor Hogan to veto this bill.

Obama Admin. Won’t Let States Ask for Proof of Citizenship … On Voter Registration Form

Below is another article from Joseph Vanderhulst from PJ Media that I thought you would be interested in. Obama Admin. Won’t Let States Ask for Proof of Citizenship … On Voter Registration Form          Non-citizens are voting in American elections, and the federal government refuses to do anything to stop it.       Worse, the current administration seems to be doing everything they can to prevent the states from trying to stop it. First, they sued states that asked people to present ID before voting. Now, the administration will not let states even ask people to establish they are citizens when they register to vote. That’s the underlying plot in the latest major case in election law that has just been presented to the Supreme Court. Federal law says that states must accept and use a federal form for registering voters. But the federal form doesn’t require any proof that the person submitting…

Homeland Security Working Overtime to Add ‘New Americans’ by 2016 Election

Below is an article from J. Christian Adams on PJ Media that I thought you would be interested in.  Feel free to share! Homeland Security Working Overtime to Add ‘New Americans’ by 2016 Election       President Obama’s amnesty by edict has always been about adding new Democrats to the voter rolls, and recent action by the Department of Homeland Security provides further proof. Sources at the Department of Homeland Security report to PJ Media that the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services is reallocating significant resources away from a computer system – the “Electronic Immigration System” – to sending letters to all 9,000,000 green card holders urging them to naturalize prior to the 2016 election. This effort is part of the DHS “Task Force on New Americans. PJ Media has obtained an internal “Dear Colleague” letter written by Leon Rodriguez, the “director and co-chair of the Task Force on New…

Non-citizen Voter Case Goes to Supreme Court

Below is an article from Kenric Ward of the Examiner I thought you might have an interest in.  Feel free to share!   Non-citizen voter case goes to Supreme Court         Local and state government officials are registering non-U.S. citizens as valid voters — even when the non-citizens say they are not Americans on their voter registration forms, a former Justice Department attorney tells The Daily Caller. J. Christian Adams, a former U.S. Department of Justice official in the Civil Rights Division will show the Supreme Court in a brief later this month that non-citizens are registering to vote through the government’s motor voter program, the report said. Former Federal Elections Commission official Hans von Spakovsky said the federal government is making it harder for the states to know who is a citizen of the U.S. and who isn’t. “The whole problem is most states are not issuing…
